Suggestion Therapy, otherwise known as Clinical Hypnosis, is the type of therapy everyone thinks of when they think of ‘hypnotherapy’. I offer this therapy at my practice just outside of Battle, East Sussex.
We use Suggestion Therapy to help people with relatively minor issues. For instance, stopping smoking, fear of flying, exam and test nerves, public speaking, and so on.
When we are pleasantly relaxed in light hypnosis, the ‘critical factor’ in our mind is reduced. This makes it much easier for us to accept new ideas and suggestions. That is provided we want these ideas and suggestions in our mind. Suggestion Therapy uses our temporarily increased susceptibility to positive suggestions to help us to change unwanted habits (e.g. nail biting and smoking). Ot to help driving/exam test nerves. It can help a fear of flying usually for the length of an average holiday.
Suggestion Therapy usually requires just one or two sessions. The exception to this is Stop Smoking Easily which requires a single, longer session.
Some Suggestion Therapy is included in The Relaxed Eating Programme. This is a special three session programme which is really only suited to those people who have about a stone at most to lose. However, for most people who have problems with controlling their weight, Suggestion Therapy is simply not effective for long term changes. We therefore need to sort out the underlying reasons for having problems with controlling food intake. This most often involves an underlying ‘compulsion’ to comfort eat, binge, or generally over-eat. Everyone is different though and the best approach will be discussed and usually agreed upon during a free 30 minute weight loss assessment session.
Whether it’s golf, tennis, horse riding, athletics, football, running, motor sports or something else, going through a course of therapy related to sport will help you to enhance your sports performance.
Using this approach is far more useful than sport hypnosis alone because the results will stay with you. Whereas the effects of hypnosis plus suggestions normally only last for a short time.
Sometimes the sports performance problem is actually ‘performance anxiety’ and this may require a different approach to resolve.
Suggestion Therapy can be very effective in helping you to overcome the anxiety or fear you feel about flying. However, the effects of this type of therapy are only ever temporary. They will usually last long enough for a single holiday. If you want to sort out your fear for good, you will need to consider doing something more in-depth.
