Suggestion Therapy, otherwise known as Clinical Hypnosis, is the type of therapy everyone thinks of when they think of ‘hypnotherapy’. I offer this therapy at my practice just outside of Battle, East Sussex.
Suggestion Therapy is widely used to successfully help people with relatively minor issues such as stopping smoking, dieting and weight loss (only in limited situations – see below), fear of flying, exam and test nerves, public speaking, and so on.
When a person is pleasantly relaxed in light hypnosis, the ‘critical factor’ in their mind is reduced and this makes it much easier for them to accept new ideas and suggestions – provided they want these ideas and suggestions in their mind. Suggestion Therapy makes use of their temporarily increased susceptibility to positive suggestions to help them to change unwanted habits (e.g. nail biting and smoking), or to help driving/exam test nerves, or help a fear of flying (the effects usually last for one holiday).
Suggestion Therapy usually requires just one or two sessions. The exception to this is Stop Smoking Easily which requires a single, longer session.
Some Suggestion Therapy is included in The Relaxed Eating Programme, a special three session programme which is really only suited to those people who have about a stone at most to lose. The programme is designed to help you change your basic behaviours with food – for more information click here.
Suggestion Therapy is also included in the Hypno-Band Weight Loss System which is for those who are clinically obese or have a high BMI – for more info click here.
However, for most people who have problems with controlling their weight, Suggestion Therapy is simply not effective for long term changes and we would therefore need to sort out the underlying reasons for having problems with controlling food intake in the first place: most often this involves an underlying ‘compulsion’ to comfort eat, binge, or generally over-eat. Everyone is different though and the best approach will be discussed and usually agreed upon during a free 30 minute weight loss assessment session.
Whether it’s golf, tennis, horse riding, athletics, football, running, motor sports or something else, going through a course of Cognitive Therapy & Positive Psychology will help you to enhance your sports performance.
Using this approach is far more useful than sport hypnosis alone because what you will learn will stay with you, whereas the effects of hypnosis plus suggestions normally only last for a short time.
Sometimes the sports performance problem is actually performance anxiety and this may require a different approach to resolve.
Suggestion Therapy can be very effective in helping you to overcome the anxiety or fear you feel about flying. However, the effects of this type of therapy are only ever temporary and, although they will last long enough for a single holiday, if you want to sort out your fear for good, you will need to consider doing something more permanent.
Do you find that, no matter how well you have revised for your exams or how competent you are in the car during driving lessons, your mind goes blank or your driving skills almost leave you altogether once it comes to being ‘put on the spot’ during tests or exams?
You are most definitely not alone but you need not struggle any longer: Suggestion Therapy can give you the temporary boost that you need to be able to face these situations feeling calm, confident and capable.
Suggestion therapy works extremely well as a confidence booster for that speech you are dreading.
Make sure that your turn in the spotlight does not turn into a nervous dash for the door – make that speech with confidence and pride.
You will feel more relaxed than you have felt in possibly a long while and the effects should last for several days after the session.
