I have successfully treated a variety of eating disorders/problems with food at my practice just outside of Battle, East Sussex and covering Hastings, Rye, Bexhill, Heathfield, Hailsham, Eastbourne, Crowborough, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Ashford and the surrounding areas of East Sussex and Kent.

I expect like most people with an eating disorder or specific problem with food you think, or you have been told, that food or certain types of food or your particular behaviour with food is the problem in itself. If you have sought help for your eating disorder or problem with food, (through counselling, psychotherapy, CBT or whatever), the chances are that all emphasis has been on your disorder or problem with food and ways in which you can try to overcome, manage or cope with whatever your issue may be, with varying degrees of, usually temporary, success. However, the reason why most of these approaches don't produce a lasting or completely successful resolution, is that food or your behaviour with food is actually NOT the problem - it is in fact a symptom of another problem....

All forms of problems with food and eating disorders, including bulimia, anorexia, orthorexia, are actually symptoms of another problem - they are in fact 'coping mechanisms' which you have developed and/or feel 'compelled' to do because you actually have underlying, unresolved bottled up feelings which make you feel less than happy and comfortable with yourself and often feel unable to cope - perhaps you feel anxious or lack confidence or worry about what other people think of you a lot or have low self-esteem or you have feelings of being 'out of control' quite often, for instance.

Now, I understand that this may well 'fly in the face' of everything you may know or have been told in the past about eating disorders and problems with food but just think about it for a couple of minutes, be honest with yourself and consider if one or two of those things apply to you before you dismiss it completely and then read on if it's starting to make sense to you.

If you suffer from an eating disorder such as binging and purging (vomiting and/or the use of laxatives or diuretics); or bulimia (this does not always involve binge eating before the vomiting, often the sufferer eats 'normal' sized meals); or anorexia; or orthorexia, you are hoping (on some level) that you can change the way you feel about yourself; or you are distracting yourself from these uncomfortable feelings by having elaborate food regimes to think about and stick to; or you are trying to get back a sense of being in control either by rigorously controlling what goes into your body (anorexia or orthorexia) or controlling what happens to it afterwards (vomiting, purging). Whatever you are doing, you are doing it to try to make yourself FEEL better.

As with people who suffer from fears, phobias, anxiety and similar, if you are suffering with an eating disorder or any problem with food, you will often feel that you have "something inside of you but outside of your own control". The only way to successfully treat your eating disorder is to resolve the underlying unwanted thoughts and feelings you have about yourself as these are the real cause of your problems.

Problems with food, eating disorders, anorexia, bulimia all helped with hypnosis & hypnotherapy in Battle, Hastings, Rye, East Sussex & Kent, UKI specialise in the unique therapy of 'Pure' Hypnoanalysis, which offers you a permanent resolution to your problems with food and eating disorders.
